Important news regarding AI regulation initiatives. Concept Art Association (US initiative) has start to ask founds for year 2024. They need our help to regulate AI. I link here both the projects. United States project (year 2024) https://www.gofundme.com/f/37grdj9ofc European project (year 2023-2024) https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-protect-our-art-and-data-from-ai-companies Last year we got great results, since we were able to obtain the first laws on generative AI by European Union and we have taken the discussion into US Congress. However, even we were able to start the discussion and start the regulation process, is still important to continue to take our point of view during this process, to make more adapt and just regulation, in order to protects the rights of the artists.

Dear friends of DeviantART:

I could use a little help regarding my story. I thought that, at first, I wanted a love story but now I’m thinking of an action/adventure story. My ideas for the action/adventure story could use the love story as the sub-plot, but it turns into a totally different story than what I’d planned.

I want it to resemble the original, with which I was happy, but now… I’m stuck at a crossroads regarding the story about whether or not I should tell the story as a love story with an action/adventure sub-plot, or an action/adventure story with a romance sub-plot.

Here are my two ideas that I need help with. Would you rather read this story?

Story A

“While stranded on a remote island hiding a legendary treasure, a young docent must help its tribe of natives ward off destructive tourists, or risk losing the love of their beautiful queen.”

Or this story?

Story B

“A young man shipwrecked on an island of natives untouched by Westernization falls in love with their beautiful queen, but already has a fiancée, thus needing to choose between the two as he frees the island from potential treasure-seekers.”

My thoughts on the first plot (the action/adventure plot) makes their queen look weak and unheroic and thus debasing what it means to be a woman in a position of power.

My thoughts regarding the love story makes me believe that there’s not enough action, unrest, or crisis/conflict in the plot to make it interesting enough to engage both readers and myself as the writer.

Please vote in the poll below:

I would greatly appreciate any input you can give regarding these two choices.

Thanks,

Here is an idea from SamwiseTheAwesome that I found via DC-26

Let's start 2023 off on the right foot!

Hit me up in the comments if you'd like to participate, and I'll look through your gallery and select a piece I like. I'll then post the pieces in this journal with some comments - literature very welcome!

Please give this a try yourself and let's spread positivity! On that note, here is a link to the original journal:

First up, since I got this from DC-26, I'll share one of hers:

I love this short story because it deals with two things I am fond of: The Aubrey-Maturin series by Patrick O'Brian, and Middle Earth/Lord of the Rings stuff.

It was interesting to read it from Lucky Jack's point-of-view and I will be looking further into many of her other works.

By SamwiseTheAwesome, I loved this one the most:

Peter Mayhew Tribute

I like the sentiment and it makes me nostalgic for all the people/characters I had taken for granted all my life. It makes me realize that all these actors/actress[es] (Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, Carrie Fisher, David Prowse, Jeremy Bulloch, Erik Bauersfeld, etc.) need to be cherished while we have them. That said, I wish a very long life to Mark Hamill, the guy with the best attitude toward the world and its injustices (and who just so happens to be my older-man crush.blush sorrynotsorry ).

I may not be of that group, but I sure as Hell support the people who are!

So, just know that I fully accept that others have their preferences, and that we are all human. We all deserve the right to love those that love us back and accept us for who we are, and there's no shame in being a part of those who are not strictly heterosexual and cis-gendered.

The only people who should be ashamed are the bigots that pick and choose verses from the Old Testament to support their views. These people are the heartless, stubborn, jerks who refuse to see beyond their limited world. They try to color inside the lines and refuse to think outside of the canvas.

There is no room for haters in my world, and so I offer myself as a safe person to protect and support those who are targets to such haters just because of a minor thing like sexuality.

We are all human beings. You wouldn't be here if you weren't meant to do something that makes a difference even in one person's world.

You are a ROCKSTAR!

Love to you all! :)

fter seven years of miserly misery, Scrooge learned that riches don’t buy the warmth that family togetherness affords.

Then… COVID-19 happened.

Bah! Humbug! What reason have we to be merry? We’re sick enough!

What reason indeed… We live for, and with, what we have. Even if all we have is hope, that’ll do.

Better than money is hope. Better than anything really. And that’s all one needs when the sky darkens, and the temperatures begin to drop.

Whether it be hope for the now, or hope for some future goodness, we could all use some. Sprinkle a little on those cookies for the church bake sale. Add a dash to the wassail cup at the party tradition your late Nana started. Speak it often when you talk to others about your holiday plans. Breathe it in during the silent night hours after the department store closes and Santa goes home to put his feet up and eat hot soup.

Let hope soak into your bones, to the marrow. That’s where it all ends anyway. At the core. Can’t get much deeper than that.

This year, saturate yourself in hope. Let it be your guide. Bathe in it. Cleanse your battered spirit with its healing properties. It’ll revitalize your outlook. Hope allows us to rest, to see our trials with fresh eyes.

Hope won’t let you go. Like that one annoyingly cheerful and optimistic person at work who won’t let anything get them down no matter what. That’s hope for you; ever present. And sometimes you want it to leave you alone because you’d just love to stew in your misery. Nah-ah; not gonna happen. You see, hope is also that one friend who’s always there to give you a leg up.

Hope is useful, if only to hope for more of it. It becomes a habit. An addiction. But it’s one addiction with few consequences, and many benefits.

I’m not going to tell you everything will be okay this year. Hope doesn’t work that way. But it does supply you with the will to keep trying at whatever it is you strive for.

I believe George Iles said it best: “Hope is faith holding out its hand in the dark.” And what brighter thing is there during the cold dark holiday season than the light of hope for the following year? Nothing except for the white LED headlights on new cars that sear one’s retinas. Other than that, hope is pretty bright. And I have no intention of snuffing that light out.
